Privacy Policy
What we collect
HowTypicalAmI is built to be useful with as little personal data as possible. The minimum we collect:
- Submissions you make. The number you enter and any optional fields (age, occupation, country) — but never your name, email, or any unique identifier alongside them. Each submission is associated with a one-way SHA-256 hash of your IP and user-agent (truncated to 16 hex characters) only to detect abuse and dedupe.
- If you create an account: your email, a salted argon2 hash of your password, an optional display name, your country and language preferences, and your last login time.
- If you opt into the email digest: your email and locale.
What we don't collect
- We don't use third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no Mixpanel, no Hotjar).
- We don't sell, share, or rent your data to anyone.
- We don't track you across other sites.
Cookies
We use a minimal set of cookies:
htai_lang: stores your language choice (1 year).htai_country: stores your country choice for percentile lookup (1 year).htai_session(only if signed in): keeps you logged in (60 days, HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax).htai_cc: records whether you accepted advertising cookies (1 year).
If you accept advertising cookies, Google AdSense may set its own cookies. You can decline; the site works fully without them.
Your rights
If you have an account:
- You can download a JSON export of everything we have on you.
- You can delete your account at any time. Your account record is removed; submissions you made while signed in are anonymized (the link to your account is severed) so existing share links keep working without identifying you.
- You can change your email or password from your account page.
If you don't have an account, your submissions can't be tied back to you (we deliberately don't keep enough information to do so).
Where data is stored
All data is stored on private servers operated by us in the United States. We don't use a third-party hosting provider for the application or database.
